Site updates and a new test page

I got a stuck for awhile regarding adding pages. I began learning how to create images and web linking in January 2020. I’m learning many complex formatting things to try to make the visual features I want for this site. I also got a newer WordPress template to improve things visually. I hope find the new changes helpful.

I reworked the homepage this week. A friend of mine gave me a really great picture of Żywiec. It was taken from a hiking trail. This picture is now part of the lower half of the home page.

I’ve also started a test page, that I’m asking people to look at for input. Logistically it will work, I’ve been testing it for several months. But I’m hoping it will also visually makes sense to people, other than myself. Each new family page will include a DNA notation, a link to the family in FamilySearch, and a section of clickable buttons. The buttons in the gold and slate gray boxes are not yet linked. But they will soon each be linked to individual pages. This format will make a clickable, virtual tree and show how families are related. I’ve made two background images for the buttons: An eagle for if they never left Poland, and a ship for if they immigrated. The ship image used is the Berengaria*, which Adam Sanetra sailed on in 1923, heading back to Chicago to look for his children.

I've always been passionate about family history. I thoroughly enjoy stories, pictures, maps, charting, good sourcing, and looking for ways newer technology can help with sharing. I try to understand whole communities: all the neighbors, ethnicities, historical events and occupations of my ancestors' environments. I write, research and work on my 3 family history websites daily, full time. I post stories and family pages as often as I can. My work is divided into three areas: Mecklenburg County Virginia, Colonial Virginia and Polish.
